If your vision has become blurred, and you have problems seeing under certain lighting conditions, such as when driving at night, you may indeed have develop cataracts. Our expert ophthalmologist, Dr. Christianne Schoedel, provides excellent Grantley eye surgery, including cataract surgery.
When a patient comes into our vision practice, Christianne Schoedel M.D., with complaints of blurred vision, our eye doctor will provide them with a complete eye exam. There can be different causes of blurred vision, with a common cause being cataracts, if the patient is over age 60. However, cataracts can develop in patients of any age, for different reasons. The good news is that most cataracts can usually be easily corrected with laser Grantley eye surgery. Today, cataract surgery is one of the safest and most common eye surgeries performed. Cataract surgery generally takes only on matter of minutes, as the damaged natural lens of the eye is removed through a tiny incision in the eye, and is then replaced with a new man-made lens. This new man-made lens is called an intraocular lens. There are now different types of intraocular lenses available, including multifocal lenses which make it possible for the patient to have excellent vision at several distances. This means that our patients who get multifocal intraocular lenses may not need to wear eyeglasses at all for driving, or for reading up close. The cataract eye surgery is performed on an outpatient basis, and no stitches are ever needed after the surgery is complete. Recovery from the surgery is generally quite comfortable for our patients, who will simply need to see our eye doctor for several follow-up visits. Not all patients with cataracts need immediate surgery. Sometimes a change in your lens prescription can provide you with clear vision and push back the time at which you will need cataract surgery.
